Chamundi Hill

Chamundi Hill is one of the sacred hills in South India. The hill and the temple at top is named after the goddess who killed the demon that the city of Mysore was named after. A short bus ride from Mysore Palace and I was at the top.

At the top vendors were selling crafts and pujas (offerings) around the temple.

A cool staircase from the surrounding buildings

The temple was swarmed with people in and outside of it, so I decided to marvel at it from afar. The only picture I have of it also has a lovely view of my hand as well.

From the main temple hill, there is a long stone stairway up and down called The 1000 Steps. I walked down to see the statue of Nandi, the bull. Some of the people who were climbing up were using colored powder to mark EACH and EVERY step they passed. Later I was told that the process was done for good luck or wish making.

A pile of the traditional colored powder at the top of the steps.

Women marking each step as they walked by.

At a shrine along the steps.

About one third of the way down the steps was the statue of Nandi, the vehicle mount of the god Shiva.
