Old Goa

Ten kilometers east of Panaji is Old Goa, the historic city that served as capital of Portugese India from the 15th to 18th century. It is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.  There were several churches and sites to see in the area.

First we went to Basilica of Bom Jesus, one of the best examples of baroque architecture in India.

Alexis bought some offering flowers.

Inside the church was a courtyard.

This church also holds the mortal remains of St. Francis Xavier

Nearby across the street was Se Cathedral, a huge and most gorgeous church.

Outside Se Cathedral! The tree wants to be close to Jesus!

We continued to walk around the area. There was plenty to see including a small chapel, a museum, and the Church of St. Francis Assisi.

Church of St. Francis Assisi

Probably my favorite building we saw that day.

There were just so many beautiful details in the walls and statues.

In all the countries I've traveled to, places of worship have been the most beautiful buildings I've ever seen.
