Angkor Wat Day II

I started the morning at Ta Phom for a couple hours and then backtracked to Angkor Wat, to avoid the massive crowd of sunrise seekers.

Walking up to Angkor Wat, I was began to understand why this place is such a big deal.

The temple is just as iconic as the Taj Mahal

As I entered the temple listening to my ipod on shuffle, this song appropriately came on.

Recognizable bare breasted devas decorating many of the temples.

Angkor Wat has extensive decorations, mostly bas-relief friezes, such as this one.

These are scenes depicting episodes of Hindu epics.

Angkor Wat is an example of the classical Khmer style architecture.  The temple ground harmoniously includes towers shaped like lotus buds, broad passageways, and overlooking terraces.

Though this is one of the best preserved temples, there are still signs of looting all around.

I climbed up it and had a moment.
