We spent some time in Fruitvale eating way too spicy ceviche tostadas and way to good churros.

TEMESCAL

Temescal is where I had blind dates and family dates and lady dates.  It's where I found the pieces that decorate my walls and books.  It is where he took me to eat when I finally came back home home home to Oakland.

Andrew and I took a stroll along Telegraph and Temescal.  The area has changed so much in the short years I've lived in Oakland.  I got to show him my favorite store of all: The East Bay Depot for Creative Reuse. Then we headed one block over to get lunch at Burma Superstar and dessert at Tara's.

Best salad. Tea Leaf at Burma Superstar.

Best sorbet. Chamomile at Tara's Ice Cream.

Afterwards we perused the shops at the all too hip Temescal Alley.

Crimson, plant nursery and goods for the home/body.  Those shelves tho...

At Waveformless, vintage synthesizers.

At Homestead Apothecary.  Teas, tinctures, and other healing items.

It really is.

At Book/Shop, a bookstore for book lovers.

At Esquileto.  Beautiful and unique jewelry pieces.

At Sagrada, a sacred store.  Not in Temescally Alley but close by and worth mentioning!

SUMMERTIME CATCH UP

Ah, cafe time... how I've missed thee. At Actual Cafe.

I love maintaining this digital scrapbook of mine.  I love that it is summer and I have time to go back and catalog my favorite memories in a place on this world wide web I can call my own.  I have a backlog of post to from the past year to catch up on and I'm so excited to start.

JACK LONDON SQUARE

Jack London Square is where we rode the party bus in ties and high heels.  It's where I had my first moment of clarity after the night on Grizzly Peak.  It's where we found $100 worth of credit and played ski ball until we could afford samurai swords.  It's where we had chicken and waffles, vegan mac & cheese, beers on beers on beers, and listen to my favorite cover of Life on Mars.

At Jack London Square I introduced Brian, Jon, Alexis, and Andrew to Souley's because where else can you get vegan soul food?

Afterwards we walked around the pier, taking pictures next to At-Ats and enjoying the last moments of sunlight on this long summer day.

Cal is where I learned to fuck my fear. It is where I learned to meditate and downward-dog.  It's where countless adventures took place at a whim of a text message. It is where I began to expand my heart on hilltops with views and in dark rooms with glowing lights.  It's where I met you and you and you.  And other like-minded, life-changing, all-inspiring yous. And for all this I am forever indebted and in reverence to this magical place.
